Eight centuries of Al-Andalus — the Mezquita, the Alhambra and halal food that's easier than you think
Spain is the trip people assume will be difficult, and the one that surprises them most. The Mezquita of Córdoba and the Alhambra are the two great buildings of Muslim Spain and both are open to everyone. Halal food takes planning rather than luck, so we plan it stop by stop: a shortlist of Muslim-owned restaurants in each city, checked before the group arrives.
The route as we actually run it — including the quiet days, which are there on purpose.
Arrival, the Gran Vía and the Prado, plus a first dinner at a Muslim-owned restaurant in the centre. Optional Toledo day trip on day 2.
The Mezquita — a forest of red-and-white arches — the Roman bridge, the Alcázar gardens and the Judería quarter.
The Alhambra and the Generalife gardens with a licensed guide, then the Albaicín and a sunset at the Mirador de San Nicolás with the Sierra Nevada behind it.
The Giralda, the Alcázar of Seville and Plaza de España, with a flamenco evening and a farewell dinner. Departure from Seville or Madrid.
Halal in Spain takes planning rather than luck. We run a shortlist of Muslim-owned and halal-certified restaurants in Madrid, Córdoba, Granada and Seville, checked before the group arrives. Every included meal is halal; seafood and vegetarian backups are pre-planned.
Madrid, Córdoba, Granada and Seville all have mosques near the centre, and the Mezquita and the Alhambra both have prayer space on site. Prayer times sit on the daily schedule.
Dates are guaranteed once four travellers are booked. Ask us about private departures on other dates.
Yes, in the cities on this route — but not on every corner. That is why we hand you a restaurant shortlist rather than leaving you to search.
There is prayer space within the complex and mosques a short walk away in the Albaicín. Your guide will point out both.
A fair amount — the Alhambra and the Albaicín involve hills and steps. We keep the pace slow and build in free afternoons.
