> Fiords, alpine lakes and geothermal valleys — with halal food that is genuinely easy

## Overview

New Zealand is one of the quietest surprises for Muslim travellers: a country whose halal certification system is so established that halal meat is a major export, with mosques in every main city and halal menus far more common than visitors expect. What is hard is the geography — this is a country built at a scale that punishes rushed itineraries — so we run it slowly, with internal flights and two-night stays instead of one-night stands.

## Why New Zealand works for Muslim travellers

- **Halal food is genuinely easy** — New Zealand is a major halal meat exporter with well-established certification, and halal options are common in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Queenstown.
- **Mosques in every city** — Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin all have established mosques, and Christchurch's Muslim community rebuilt its own after 2019.
- **Built for the landscape** — Milford Sound, the Southern Alps, Lake Tekapo and Rotorua's geothermal valleys, with two-night stays so a weather day does not ruin the trip.
- **Small group, real distances** — 16 travellers maximum, internal flights where the drives are long, and a trip leader who has driven these roads.

## Top experiences

- Milford Sound: a fiord cruise beneath sheer cliffs and waterfalls
- Queenstown and the Southern Alps: Lake Wakatipu, Arrowtown and alpine viewpoints
- Lake Tekapo: the Church of the Good Shepherd and one of the darkest night skies on earth
- Rotorua: geothermal valleys, Maori culture and the Redwoods
- Auckland and Christchurch: harbours, museums and the country's established Muslim communities

## Halal food and prayer

New Zealand's halal certification system is well established — the country is a major exporter of halal meat — and halal restaurants and butchers are common in the main cities. Every included meal on our departures is halal, and your leader carries a shortlist for free time in each town.

Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin all have established mosques, and smaller towns usually have a prayer room or a Muslim community centre. Prayer times are on the daily schedule, including on long driving days.

## Best time to go

November to April, the southern summer. Ski season in Queenstown runs June to August; the fiords are spectacular and wet year-round.

## FAQ

**Is halal food really easy in New Zealand?**
In the cities, yes — the country certifies halal meat for export and that infrastructure shows up in restaurants and supermarkets. Smaller South Island towns need planning, which we do.

**How much driving is there?**
A lot, if you do it the usual way. We use internal flights for the long legs and stay two nights wherever the landscape deserves it.
